Building Healthy Families:  Great families, like great marriages, don’t just happen. They take work, sacrifice, commitment and lots of prayer. If your family isn’t as strong and happy as you would want, consider gathering everyone together and asking this question: What do we want our family to be? Gather everyone’s answers which might include things like, “We are a family that loves to spend time together” or “We are a family that doesn’t yell” or “Our family never leaves anyone behind”. Pick the top 10 you all agree on and post them on the refrigerator for all to read regularly. See if you don’t start growing into your vision!   Lutheran Family Services

Building Healthy Families:  Parenting has never been an easy job, but it is arguably harder today than ever before. Getting kids back into school routines after taking the summer off is also challenging. Is there a young family God has put in your path through your work, school, church, neighborhood or family? Take some time this week to connect with them to see how they are doing. Offer to help. With your parenting experience and a bit of your time, you may be their answer to prayer!  Lutheran Family Services

Thank You - It is an honor to accept the gift we recently received that was designated toward the Discover Campaign Okoboji building expansion.  I continue to be amazed by the generosity of God’s people as they willingly share His love and kindness with others. Your acts of kindness are a true testimony to the love of God, which dwells in your heart and works to serve others.

Did You Know: 1 out of every 8 couples in Iowa have trouble getting pregnant when they are ready to start family building. Regardless of the reason for their infertility, couples who are unable to conceive experience a wide range of challenging emotions which effect their marriage, and their individual mental, emotional and spiritual health. LFS counselors help couples navigate through the many challenges that infertility brings. They are also available when needed to help couples explore the possibility of building their family through adoption. Remind a couple you know who is struggling with infertility of this resource. Your support of LFS ministry makes this possible - thank you!    Lutheran Family Services

Building Healthy Families     What are the best memories you have from your childhood? Best-selling author and psychologist Mary Pipher from Lincoln, Nebraska says there are three things that we usually remember with great happiness from our childhood -- time spent outdoors, vacations and family meals. In the midst of these long summer days, be sure to relax with your children outdoors with unplanned time together. Take some time off work… you don’t even have to leave home to vacation.  Lutheran Family Services

Stewardship Corner - On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the absolute best, how would you rate what you are doing as a steward?   On God’s grading scale, we all rate a zero without Him.  Fortunately, God knows that we are not perfect.  In spite of our imperfections and frailties, God wants to use us as His hands and feet to feed the hungry, house the homeless, build His Church, and seek the lost with His Gospel.  God has made us His stewards, and He equips us for the task.  The Apostle Paul wrote, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).  The good news for us is that, in Christ, our “0” becomes a “10.”
