Building Healthy Families:  Are you ever tempted to dwell on the thought that some people are more gifted (or talented, or beautiful, or smart, or athletic…) than you are? Eleanor Roosevelt once famously said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Stop comparing yourself critically to others and remember instead who you are, because of Whose you are: But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12)  Lutheran Family Service

Building Healthy Families:  I can forgive you, but I will never forget what you did. Have you ever said this to someone or heard someone say this to you? YIKES! Certainly, this is not the type of love that God has shown us in our relationship with Him. If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O LORD, who could stand? Spend some time this week praying for healing for the relationship in your life which still carries unforgiven past hurts. Remember that you are a child of God who has received His forgiveness. He both forgives…and forgets! Lutheran Family Service

Building Healthy Families:  God gave woman a special gift--the ability to carry new life within her own body. Psalm 139:13 says, “You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” It is good that we have a day set aside specifically in honor of motherhood. In a world where human life in the womb is at risk of being aborted, we can encourage girls and young women, sharing with them the immense joy and honor of being a mother. To all our moms…thanks for who you are and all you do. Happy Mother’s Day! Lutheran Family Service

Building Healthy Families: It’s been said that children may not always be good at listening to their parents, but they never fail to imitate them. The words you speak are less important than the every-day life you lead. Your children (and grandchildren) are constantly learning about life by watching you. What an immense responsibility. What an incredible privilege! Pray that God will help you to be the kind of adult that you want your child (or grandchild) to become. Lutheran Family Service
