Building Healthy Families - Listen to the news on any given evening and you will be inundated with accounts of terrible things happening, both locally and around the world. Hearing bad news every day can cause you to become anxious and hopeless. Consider taking a week-long “news holiday” by turning off the TV and computer. Use your new-found free time to read and memorize Scripture. When you commit Jesus’ words to memory, you will be able to recall them whenever you hear bad news: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."  Lutheran Family Service - www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Building Healthy Families: The truth hurts, or so they say, but lies hurt so much worse. Little white lies count here, too. Whether you are a teenager relating to your parent or a husband or wife relating to your spouse, pledge to always be truthful…even (and maybe most especially) when it would be easier not to. Don’t try to cover things up. Over time, it will cause the relationship to suffer from a lack of trust. “We trap ourselves by telling lies, but we stay out of trouble by living right.” (Proverbs 12:13) Lutheran Family Service - www.LutheranFamilyService.org.
