The Congregation Is Invited to the church basement for coffee cake and fellowship time with the Confirmands and their families!

Lessons on the Liturgy:  Confirmation

Confirmation is a public rite of the Church that is preceded by a period of instruction designed to help baptized Christians identify with the life and mission of the Christian community.  Having been instructed in the Christian faith prior to admission to the Lord’s Supper, the rite of Confirmation provides an opportunity for the individual Christian, relying on God’s promise of Holy Baptism, to make a personal public confession of the faith and a lifelong pledge of fidelity to Christ. - Explanation taken from Lutheran Worship: Altar Book.

Almsgiving Project Reports

The following is the confirmation students’ selections to whom our Lenten alms are being sent:

Gabby Kelly: St. Jude's

I am going to donate alms to St. Jude’s Children and Research Hospitals.  The money I donate to them will help pay for hospital bills so that the parents do not have to pay for them. It will also go towards furthering cancer research.  I chose to donate my alms to St Jude’s because I love what they do as a hospital. They provide a caring place where children and their parents can sleep, eat, travel, and have treatment free of charge. They also work very hard on trying to find new ways to cure cancer.

Jacob Haase:  Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church

I am donating my alms to Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.  I have chosen to donate money to them so that they can buy supplies for their Sunday school classes and religion school classes to help them learn the true Word.

Jordan Blocker: Fenton Fire Department

I am giving alms to Fenton's fire and ambulance department. They can use the money toward newer and better equipment so they can help more people. I choose to give the money to them because I think that they could use the money to do some good.

Christian Bierstedt: Fort Dodge Women's Shelter

I am donating alms to the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center (D/SAOC) of Fort Dodge.  I have donated quilts there before and it is a good program that serves a lot of people in need.

Camp Okoboji Spring Volunteer Weekend will be May 3-5th.  Join your brothers and sisters in Christ for a fun-filled weekend. Lessons on the Liturgy:  The Paschal Candle

The Paschal Candle, or “Christ Candle” is lit on Easter Sunday and remains lit until the Ascension of our Lord forty days later.  This light represents the bodily presence of Christ in the midst of his disciples during the forty days after his resurrection.  The only other times the Paschal Candle is lit is on special holidays like Christmas and Pentecost, and at baptisms and funerals as a special reminder that Christ is bodily present among those being baptized into his name and those who die in the faith and now rest with him.

Preschool Registration - Kids of the Kingdom Preschool is now accepting registration for the 2018-2019 school year for 3 and 4 year olds.  Please contact the church office at 924-3344 or Jessie Parsons at 320-0501.

Almsgiving Project Reports

The following is the confirmation students’ selections to whom our Lenten alms are being sent:

Nicholas Christensen: The Algona Food Bank

I chose the food bank of Algona.  The money could help them buy the food they need rather than hope someone donates what they need.  The reason I chose the food bank is that they always need donations to keep the place running and to have the food they need.

Peyton Marlow:   St. Paul’s Music Conservatory of Council Bluffs, IA

I chose the Music Conservatory of St. Paul’s Lutheran church to give alms to.  This organization is important as they offer private music lessons taught by Christian instructors in the areas of cello, guitar, organ, and piano.  These instructors provide opportunities for development in musical leadership.  By giving money to the Music Conservatory more people will be able to benefit from these music lessons.

Jay Heinen:  Lone Rock Fire Department

I am giving my alms to the Lone Rock Fire Department.  This is a volunteer department so all the money will be used toward equipment.  I chose this group because I want to help my hometown.

Lessons on the LiturgyThe New Sabbath Rest

In the Old Testament Saturday was the day of rest and worship.  On Saturday, or the “Sabbath Day”, people would rest with God and celebrate the goodness of his creation just as he rested after the six days of creation.  In the New Testament Sunday has become the day of rest and worship.  This is because Jesus completed the Sabbath rest for all mankind as he rested dead in the tomb after his crucifixion.  We now rest with Jesus on Sunday as we celebrate his resurrection at the Lord’s Supper, which is a new creation that restores and perfects the old.  Coming to the Lord’s Supper is the best way to rest with God from his labors of creating, especially of the new creation of his Son’s crucified and resurrected body and blood.  It would therefore be appropriate and of the utmost joy for Christians to celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday in order to rest with God in his new and perfect creation.

Thank You to the Confirmation Students, Brenda Schutjer, Stefanie Hatten, Shirlee Alt and Barb Thilges for organizing and serving the coffee and rolls on Easter morning.
