Building Healthy Families Iowa now has at least 22 options for gambling in a casino and a seemingly infinite number of places to play the lottery and purchase scratch tickets. Online gambling options are infinite and a law to allow online fantasy sports betting in Iowa is being considered. While some consider gambling a form of entertainment, it’s addictive and life-consuming for others. For all, it can undermine reliance on God as the provider of all our needs. Keep an eye out for signs of gambling addiction among those you love and call an LFS counselor for support and resources.  Lutheran Family Services

Building Healthy Families What are your best childhood memories? Psychologist Mary Pipher says there are three things that most people usually remember with great happiness from childhood -- time spent outdoors, vacations and family meals. In the midst of these long summer days, be sure to relax with your children outdoors with unplanned time together. Take some time off work…plan a picnic…let your children or grandchildren choose the spot. You don’t have to leave home to vacation!   Lutheran Family Services

Stewardship Corner - What a gift salvation is!  We are overwhelmed to think that Christ would condescend to come to earth to die for such undeserving sinners as we!  Indeed, we find ourselves in a good place—secure forever.  However, is that where God would have us remain?  Hardly, for salvation is just a first step, to be followed by a lifetime of sanctification and growth in spiritual maturity.   Christ did not save us in order that we should remain on earth, just counting the days till we are in heaven with Him.  He created us for service.  Daily we must be asking what God's will for us is, how He would have us serve, how He would like us to use the gifts and talents He has given us.

SOAR – The Burt Library will have a presentation and provide information on the care for well over 200 birds each that have been injured or orphaned, primarily from western Iowa.  SOAR’s goal is to return all birds to the wild. Not all birds survive in wild and these birds become educational ambassadors.  Come meet one on Monday, July 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the Burt Library.

Save the Date  -  In Concert at the Burt Presbyterian Church on September 11th a husband and wife, Blake and Jenna from Oklahoma will communicate their faith through music with gentleness and a testimony of love and commitment.  More information will come at a later time.

Deepest Thanksgiving – This is my last post on Caring Bridge. This journey started in January 2015 with a routine physical. I have gone through 9 months of chemotherapy and stem cell transplant for Multiple Myeloma. About a month ago my tests showed that there was less than 1 % of any cancer.  I would like to express to all of you my deepest thanksgiving for all your prayers. This has been a long and interesting journey.  My Lord and Savior was my constant companion giving me many promises that I have stood on and will continue to stand on in the months and years ahead.  Thank you so much for coming on this journey with me. Prayer is vital and powerful and your faithfulness has blessed us in many ways. May you experience His presence in every situation you face and may His will guide you into your eternal life with Him. Jesus is Lord!
