·         “Treasure TrekVBS is getting closer so be sure and get signed up.  Come with us on a Treasure Trek Discovering the TRUTH about Jesus in the Bible!  Five fun-filled days learning Truth is a Treasure!  We will begin our treasure hunt on August 7 thru the 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Students 3 yrs-6th grade are invited to come along. You can register all children on our Webpage at stjohnsburt.org by clicking on the icon VBS and submitting an email or call church office 515-924-3344.

·         Needed -  We are also looking for volunteers for this year’s VBS.   There is a sign-up sheet on the north table.  If interested in a FUN filled week of activities, please sign up.  We would LOVE to have you join in on the FUN!   To also help with expenses we are taking monetary donations.  You may get those donations to Brenda Schutjer, Karla Schutter or place them in the offering plate marked VBS.

Stewardship Corner -The Apostle Paul tells us, “Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world” (1 Timothy 6:6-7).  Godliness is accompanied with contentment.  Contented people are those who are content in whatever state they are.  In order to be content, we do not need to accumulate more and more things.  In fact, the more we possess the more we will likely seek after excess things.  The more we fill our lives with stuff, the more we dull our sense of contentment with God.  Even with the necessities of food, clothing, and shelter, God makes it possible for us to be content.

Preschool Registration – We still have room for Children 3-5 years in Preschool.   If you know of a child who would like to come, please contact Jessie Parsons  515-320-0501

Iowa District West Publishes a District newsletter “The Messenger” each month.  A Copy of the August Edition  is on the table in the back east wall for you to take  If you wish to read this online go to the following website:  http://www.idwlcms.org/publications.php

Building Healthy Families We are busy people. We often live our lives day-to-day, referring to our calendars to remember what the next thing is on our agenda. It is not surprising that 18% of the Americans suffer from anxiety. If you know someone who is overwhelmed or anxious, Christ-centered counseling services at LFS can help put life back into perspective. Please share our information with anyone you feel may benefit.  Lutheran Family Service

Building Healthy Families A beloved grandchild chooses for a time to walk a path that takes them away from their Christian faith. Though broken hearted and scared, don’t give up and don’t let natural emotions of disappointment, anger or fear direct your response. Instead, stay connected to them providing a living example of a life of love and faith, and take them to God daily in prayer, remembering and trusting that He loves them even more than you do and won’t let them go.  Lutheran Family Service
