Classes Begin - Sunday School begins Sept 10 at 8:30 am, Adult Bible Class at 8:15 a.m. and  Midweek Class begins Sept 13 at 6:00 p.m.

Window Project – The windows have been completed and are set to be installed September 25th thru September 30th.   They will be taking the current windows with them for disposal so if anyone wishes to have a window, you will need to be at the church to have them loaded on to your trailer the day they take it out. You will need to make arrangements with the installers as to what window you would like and when they plan on removing it.   We will not be putting them in the garage for you to pick up at a later date – they need to be taken right away. Note the install dates have been changed.

Altar Guild Volunteer – We are looking for someone to put up and take down communion.  This is the job vacated by Hannah Cowell.   You will have 3 months out of the year – January-May-September. If you wish to help out, please see Janice Reimers.

Update on Pastoral Vacancy - Now that Pastor Simonson is here to help out and the congregational nomination papers have been returned to Pastor Turner, we will soon form a committee to begin the process of calling a Senior Pastor.     President Jeff Schutjer and Elders.

Building Healthy Families - So often we slip into the habit of living for the approval of others, which leads to frustration, disappointment and disillusionment in life and relationships. In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us not to do things for the approval of men. He then goes on to assure us that our Father who sees and knows us inside out is the One who can and will meet all our needs, including our need to be recognized, valued and loved. Whew! What a relief! Life begins to look different (and much better) when seen through the eyes of faith in our loving, gracious, living and forgiving God. Fix your eyes on Jesus - not your boss, co-worker, spouse, child or neighbor - and live in the light of His great love this week! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Building Healthy Families - When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant, I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. (Mark Twain) Truth be told, parents and their children get along much better when the adolescent years are over. Dr. James Dobson once said that the goal of parenting teenagers is simply to survive and live to tell about it. If you and your family are navigating the turbulent waters of adolescence, don’t give up. It will get better! Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it. The Eleventh Sunday after Trinity

August 20, 2023

ST. JOHN’S NEWS

Pastor Dave Simonson will be leading our service this morning.  Pastor Simonson of Spirit Lake has agreed to serve as our Vacancy Senior Pastor.

Update on Pastoral Vacancy - A few weeks ago, St. Johns’ Elders met with Pastor Briton Nelson, Circuit Visitor Pastor Scott Kozisek, IDW President Steve Turner, and the Elders of Trinity. The upcoming vacancy was discussed. The Elders of both churches decided to pursue a temporary vacancy pastor to help with the services and duties needed by our congregations until a suitable replacement is found.  At the last Voter’s Meeting.  St. Johns approved to bring in a Senior Vacancy Pastor.  The Elders met with Pastor Dave Simonson of Spirit Lake who has agreed to help both churches as our Vacancy Pastor until a head Pastor accepts our call. We will now form a committee and the congregation can nominate pastors they would like to call on.

                                      President Jeff Schutjer and Elders.

Congregational Fun Night and  Picnic - On Sunday, August 20th at 5:00 p.m. we will be holding a fun night for our third event for VBS this year. Please mark your calendars and be sure to join us for the evening. We ask that you bring a covered dish to share. There will be social time and games for all kids and adults.  A Education Parents Meeting will be held during this time to get our next school year started. This will be a great time to get together as a church family!  Please join us!

Rally Sunday will be August 27 at Smith Lake with games and social time at 11:00 a.m.; worship at 11:30 a.m., and  a picnic lunch at 12pm. Watch for more information. 3rd Grade Bibles and Blessing of Backpacks will also be this day. (Sunday School begins Sept 10; Midweek Class begins Sept 13.)

Pastoral Care On Demand - Need Prayer, Scripture, Communion, Absolution, or a listening ear? Feel free to call or text Pastor Nelson at 608-464-5548 and Pastor Dave Simonson 515-297-2046.

Window Project -  The window project for replacement of 15 windows in the new addition - all Anderson windows, stained and installed, was voted and passed on Sunday, April 30, 2023 by the congregation.   The windows have been ordered this week.  When the contract was signed, we managed to get another $4,000 off the price as there was a better deal running for the month of May, so that saved us a total of $14,732.   Total due for the project is $58,932.  Anyone wishing to donate to this project can stipulate it on your offering envelope or drop an extra envelope in the plate with "window project" on it. Windows are projected to be in late September.    Thank you!  Church Council.

Building Healthy Families: When they return home from work or school, consider changing your routine question of your husband, wife, or child from, “How was your day?” to, “How can I pray for you today?” Choosing a Bible verse to pray over his/her day is a good choice if you’re unsure of how to start, asking God to bless them through this verse: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org
