Building Healthy Families: Our culture encourages us to see the world and our relationships through a lens of individualism in which we make decisions based on the question, “How will this effect ME?” How would our world be different if we returned to a faith, family, and community-centered lens, in which decisions are instead based on this question: “How will my actions affect my children, my spouse, my parents, my congregational family, my community?” Give it a try this week and see what a difference it makes! Lutherans for Life “Just as … I AM”   - Lutherans For Life believes that the Church is compelled by God’s Word to speak and act on behalf of those who are vulnerable and defenseless. The crisis of our times is the repudiation of biblical truth manifested in the wanton destruction of innocent human life through legalized abortion-on-demand and the growing threat to the lives of others through legalized assisted suicide and euthanasia. Therefore, as Lutherans For Life, we will strive to give a Gospel-motivated witness to the Church and society on these and other related issues, such as chastity, post-abortion healing, and family living. We will call God’s people to compassionate action and foster life-affirming alternatives for those facing difficult situations.

Kossuth Right to Life Rally - The right to life is under attack. After the U.S. The Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, the culture of death was intensified in its attacks on families. Pro-life legislation in several states suffered bitter defeats. But there is good work being done too!  Labors may be long before they bear fruit, but all good labors are with  hope! Let‘s take encouragement unto ourselves and share it with others ! Join us today for our Annual Kossuth Right to Life Rally at the Columbia Events Center, 1501 E Walnut St. Algona, Iowa at 1:30 p.m..  Guest speaker will be Pastor Jonathan Hanson from the Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka.

Every contribution we receive helps Lutheran Family Service continue our mission of walking with people who are experiencing hard times. Building Healthy Families: Christians who suffer from depression often experience guilt, mistakenly believing that “true Christians” should feel joy - not daily sadness. Here’s important and good news: a weak faith is not a cause of depression. Martin Luther struggled with depression (melancholy) as have many other faithful church leaders over the years. If you feel depressed, you’re not alone so don’t suffer alone. Luther had the right idea when he wrote, “Solitude produces melancholy. When we are alone the worst and saddest things come to mind. We reflect in detail upon all sorts of evils. And if we have encountered adversity in our lives, we dwell upon it as much as possible, magnify it, think that no one is so unhappy as we are, and imagine the worse possible consequences.” Don’t retreat into solitude; talk to your pastor, friend, family member, or a trusted counselor at Lutheran Family Service. www.LutheranFamilyService.org

An Expected Gift this Holiday Season - St. John's was a recipient out of 6 charitable organizations to receive $7,000 from the sale of the Bancroft Senior Citizen's building.   It was in their by-laws that if the organization ever disbanded that the money would be donated to a charitable organization.   We wish to express our sincere thanks for such a gift.   To pay it forward the Council decided to give $1,000 each to the Concordia Fort Wayne and Concordia St. Louis food banks.   You may have seen a thank you in the bulletin from each of these seminaries.   We still have $5,000 that we can use going forward into next year for a project of our own.   Again we are thankful for such a wonderful gift!!

·         Thank You from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne for the recent contribution of $1,000 to the Student Food Co-op. Gifts, such as yours, allow us to provide the finest theological education to the future pastors, deaconesses, and missionaries who will serve The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  I thank God for you and ask for your continued support.      Rev. Dr. Lawrence R Rast Jr. President

·         Dear Friends in Christ, Thank you for your wonderful gift of $1,000. Your thoughtful donation is a special blessing to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The end of the year brings no greater joy than the opportunity to express how grateful we are for you. Merry Christmas to you, and may your new year be filled with happiness and joy.  Thank you again for your generous support, and for your partnership in preparing our students for their future ministry in service to the Gospel.  You help to make the Seminary stay strong in the mission of Our Lord Jesus. We are grateful to you.!       In Christ, Vicki Biggs, Senior Vice President,
