CELEBRATING 25 YEARS IN MINISTRY – SURPRISEHello friends! I hope that this letter finds all the wonderful members of St. John’s Lutheran in Burt well!  I am trying to plan a small but secret celebration of  Pastor Pulse’s 25 years in the ministry.   My thoughts are to put together a type of scrap book or something like that to give him on August 8th.  The members of Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne (a small church he also preaches at on Sundays) want to shower him with letters cards, pictures or even your presence to remind him of the past 25 years of service.   More details of where to send the correspondence is on the east table in the back of the church.  Remember this is a secret!

Sara, Nathan, Jonathan and Mikal Soo and the Members of Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES  One characteristic of a strong, healthy family is that they anticipate and plan for change. They are flexible, and expect that they will have to make adjustments as children grow and family life changes. For example, a young boy grows to be a young teen who is now more independent and capable, and would benefit from being given more freedom, responsibility and respect within the family. In what ways is your family changing? Are you recognizing and adapting to these changes in a healthy way?   Lutheran Family Service of Iowa

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES  Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. (Ecclesiastes 4:8-10) Men and women both benefit from having friends, in addition to the friendship they share with each other. In the busyness of today’s world, it is easy to let old friendships die. Do you have an old friend you haven’t talked to in a while? Consider giving him or her a call this week.   Lutheran Family Service of Iowa

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES  -“Why can’t we just get along?” If things aren’t working out so well in your family, it is usually easy to pinpoint what others, including your spouse and kids, are doing wrong. One of the absolute hardest things to do is to consider what YOU are doing to contribute to the problem. You can’t change them, but you can change you. And that change can make a world of difference. For help in this self-assessment, contact your local LFS counselor.   Lutheran Family Service of Iowa

BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES  - What are the best memories you have from your childhood? Best-selling author and psychologist Mary Pipher from Lincoln, Nebraska says there are three things that we usually remember with great happiness from our childhood -- time outdoors, vacations and family meals. In the midst of these long summer days, be sure to relax with your children outdoors with unplanned time together. Take some time off work… you don’t even have to leave home to vacation.   Lutheran Family Service of Iowa
