Swaddling Clothes: A free will donation will be taken today through Sunday, May 17 for this mission work at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Spencer. St Paul’s assembles a collection of items associated with pregnancy and motherhood etc.. The second Saturday of each month St. Paul hosts a “shopping day” where you can survey our collection and take whatever you need. The Sunday School and Lenten Wednesday service offering will also be used for this project to help purchase items for this worthwhile cause. *More information is on the back table about this mission work! “The mission of the Swaddling Clothes is to share the mercy of Christ with our neighbors through the gifts of clothing, food, friendship, and the forgiving Word of God.”
Justin Hilton - Seminary Student: Copies of a letter and pictures of the family are available in the back for you to take and read. Justin is finishing his vicarage at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olivette. He tells of his last year as a vicar. He will then be finishing his last year at St. Louis to graduate. Building Healthy Families: Psst…have you ever noticed how nearly impossible it is to tune out a whispered conversation nearby? Kids certainly can’t. Parents, you can actually use that to your advantage—by letting them “accidentally” overhear the things you most want them to learn. When they catch you speaking warmly about your spouse, it quietly builds their sense of security at home. When they overhear you saying good things about their teacher, it shapes how they show respect and cooperation at school. And when they hear you expressing genuine appreciation for your pastor, it naturally nurtures their respect for him as well. Those little, overheard moments? They often speak louder than a message communicated directly! www.LutheranFamilyService.org Lutheran Family Service
Stewardship Corner - God’s Word tells us that He has created and owns all things. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers” (Psalm 24:1). We are warned in Deuteronomy 8:17-18: “Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you power to get wealth…” God is not only the owner of everything; He is also the source of our wealth. When we acknowledge God as owner of our money, we understand our obligation and responsibility to be faithful caretakers of all that He entrusts to us.
The Ascended Lord Jesus Is with Us Always in His Church on Earth
After He rose from the dead, the Lord Jesus presented Himself alive to the apostles, “appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God” (Acts 1:3). When He ascended to the right hand of the Father, He did not orphan His Church, but He fills all things in heaven and on earth and gives gifts to His disciples. Even now, through His Church, He continues “to do and teach” (Acts 1:1), preaching “repentance for the forgiveness of sins” (Luke 24:47) even “to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Though the cloud hid Jesus from the sight of His disciples then, and He remains hidden from sight even now, He remains with His people through His Gospel and Sacraments. He comes to us by the Word of His apostles, by the promise of His Father and by the power of the Holy Spirit, whom He pours out upon “the church, which is his body” (Eph. 1:22–23). In this holy Christian Church, we bless God and worship Christ with joy, for in His Church He blesses us with forgiveness, lifts us up in His hands and seats us with Himself “in the heavenly places” (Eph. 1:20).
