The season of Easter is 50 days long, though one could argue that this most wonderful celebration continues to be marked throughout the year. In the next several weeks of Eastertide, consider celebrating resurrection and new life by picking up fresh flowers or a small potted plant to share with a neighbor or homebound church member, enjoy time outside as God’s creation buds and blossoms, and keep up the traditional greeting of “He is risen! Happenings at Trinity/Algona:

·         Trinity Festival is Coming…. on May 4, 11:30 AM! Join us for a time of fun & fellowship to support our youth attending the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer. Multiple Trinity groups are collaborating for this exciting event! Lunch will be served by the LYF. Our Silent Auction will conclude with winners to be announced at 12:30 PM.  All welcome!

·         10th Annual Algona Prayer Breakfast: Join us on Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 AM for breakfast with a program from 7-7:45 AM in the Life Center. (Freewill offering; checks payable to National Day of Prayer)

·         The TLC Quilters’ Silent Auction will be held in conjunction with our Trinity Festival on May 4 to support youth attending the National Youth Gathering. Bidding has begun. Stop by Office lobby and place a bid!

The Victory of Christ Crucified Is Given to You in the Preaching of His Resurrection

Every Sunday is the Lord’s day, the day of His resurrection, “after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week” (Matt. 28:1). In the Divine Service, the Church enters upon the eternal “eighth day.” The Lord Jesus, “who was crucified,” who “has risen, as he said” (Matt. 28:5–6), is the firstborn from the dead and the firstfruits of the new creation. Because “you have died” with Him in Holy Baptism, “you have been raised with Christ” and “your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Col. 3:1, 3). The Lord Jesus has become our God, as surely as He is “the God of all the clans of Israel,” and we now belong to His people (Jer. 31:1). In this, He “shows no partiality” (Acts 10:34), but “everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name” (Acts 10:43). As “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power” and “raised him on the third day,” He also raises us up and pours out His Spirit upon us through the Gospel (Acts 10:38, 40).

Building Healthy Families: Parents, grandparents and pew buddies – when we think about what we can do to welcome and encourage young kids in worship, it can be helpful also to consider what not to do. For instance, “shushing” is a natural response to noise, but often only brings about embarrassment and distraction (99.9% of parents are aware of kids making noise and are actively addressing it). Rather, look for ways to build relationships over time and gently ask parents if there’s anything you can do to help their young family, following their lead. Another option is to say a simple prayer that God would grant the child(ren) and parents what He knows they need and allow you to keep your focus on Jesus and His good gifts! Recall Jesus’ words, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven,” and rejoice that He has made us all God’s children! Now Is the Hour When the Son of Man Is Glorified

“Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming.” He comes in gentle humility, “sitting on a donkey's colt,” yet also as the King of Israel “in the name of the Lord” (John 12:13, 15). His royal glory is faithful obedience and self-sacrificing service “to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:8). The Love of God is manifested in the Cross and Passion of His Son for the salvation of sinners. Since He has borne our sins and suffered our death, “God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the Name that is above every name” (Phil. 2:9), and He exalts us in His Resurrection. Our Lord did not hide His face “from disgrace and spitting” (Is. 50:6), but He trusted His God and Father, who raised Him from death and the grave and exalted Him to His right hand. This same King Jesus now comes to us in gentle humility in His Supper, feeds us with His Body, and cleanses and covers us with His Blood, so that “after His Resurrection” we also shall rise and enter the holy city (Matt. 27:52–53).

Quarterly Council Meeting will be held today April 6 following the service and the Voter’s Meeting on April 13 following the service.  These meetings are moved up due to Easter falling on our usual Sunday. 

 

All Wednesday Lenten Services will be held here at St. John’s at 6:00 p.m.  Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. here at St. John’s.

 

“THE HAND OF THE LORD” is our theme for Lent this year. Hands are used to heal, mend, build, teach, comfort, and so much more. Yet, as humans, our hands are sinful and unclean. Christ’s hands are the ones that can transform our sinful and dirtied hands into beautiful, clean ones to carry out His plans. Spend this Lent exploring God’s Word to see how His hands are used in both the New and Old Testaments, from creation to crucifixion and eternal life.
