Building Healthy Families:: Parents, grandparents and pew buddies! Throughout the week ahead, prepare for the pew! Take a few minutes each day to look up and read the Bible lessons for the following week (many congregations print them in the bulletin, maybe even on this page; if not, just ask!). Note key figures, actions, places and how God is working. Find and mark the account in a picture or story Bible and bring that along in your church bag! Once back in church, encourage your little one to listen and follow along during the readings, pointing out parts with which they’re familiar! Prayer in time of Disaster - Most merciful Father, Your ways are not our ways and we have not deserved Your kindness; yet, for the sake of Christ and His Passion, You hear the cries of Your people in their distress. Be with all who endure affliction and calamity and those who have lost possessions and loved ones from storm, hurricane and flood. Spare us, O Lord, for Your mercy's sake! Bless the work of those who bring rescue and relief. Enable Your church to support and comfort those who are suffering, pointing them to the hope and purpose You hold for all who trust in You. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Building Healthy Families: Do hurtful or disrespectful words sometimes come out of your mouth during the week as you interact with your spouse or family? If so, know that continuing this habit unchecked is damaging to your relationships in ways that you might not even know. Try memorizing this verse and call it to mind when you are tempted to bite at someone you love this week: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14). You – and your relationships – will be better for it! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org
