Lessons on the Liturgy:  Confirmation

Confirmation is a public rite of the Church that is preceded by a period of instruction designed to help baptized Christians identify with the life and mission of the Christian community.  Having been instructed in the Christian faith prior to admission to the Lord’s Supper, the rite of Confirmation provides an opportunity for the individual Christian, relying on God’s promise of Holy Baptism, to make a personal public confession of the faith and a lifelong pledge of fidelity to Christ. - Explanation taken from Lutheran Worship: Altar Book.

Almsgiving Project Reports

The following is the confirmation students’ selections to whom our Lenten alms are being sent:

Gabby Kelly: St. Jude's

I am going to donate alms to St. Jude’s Children and Research Hospitals.  The money I donate to them will help pay for hospital bills so that the parents do not have to pay for them. It will also go towards furthering cancer research.  I chose to donate my alms to St Jude’s because I love what they do as a hospital. They provide a caring place where children and their parents can sleep, eat, travel, and have treatment free of charge. They also work very hard on trying to find new ways to cure cancer.

Jacob Haase:  Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church

I am donating my alms to Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.  I have chosen to donate money to them so that they can buy supplies for their Sunday school classes and religion school classes to help them learn the true Word.

Jordan Blocker: Fenton Fire Department

I am giving alms to Fenton's fire and ambulance department. They can use the money toward newer and better equipment so they can help more people. I choose to give the money to them because I think that they could use the money to do some good.

Christian Bierstedt: Fort Dodge Women's Shelter

I am donating alms to the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center (D/SAOC) of Fort Dodge.  I have donated quilts there before and it is a good program that serves a lot of people in need.

Camp Okoboji Spring Volunteer Weekend will be May 3-5th.  Join your brothers and sisters in Christ for a fun-filled weekend. You are welcome to stay overnight and enjoy helping on Sunday May 6th with Omelet Brunch from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Call ahead for reservations for housing and meals at 712-337-3325 or email Joy.campokoboji@gmail.com
