Building Healthy Families: Sum, sum, summertime – it’s coming! What’s your plan for summer free time for you and your family? Wait - what, no plan?? Without a plan, we’re more likely to migrate to our favorite individual activities or spot in front of the television or computer screen. Consider challenging your family this week to make a “summer bucket list,” brainstorming a list of interesting things to do, perhaps with a set of parameters like, “it can’t include screen time, and it must be within a 2-hour drive of our home.” Make up your own rules and let the brainstorming ideas begin! Be sure to add a Bible story or Scripture reading plan for the summer to your list. Reading the Bible with mom and dad instead of endless days of playing computer games alone or with friends will create powerful memories for your children, and what an impact it will have on their lives! Lutheran Family Service  www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Trinity - Summer Worship Schedule: During the summer months there will only be one Sunday service at 9:00 AM. The Saturday service will continue at 5:00 PM except for holiday or wedding weekends

Building Healthy Families: Attention, all worry warts - does this thought pattern sound familiar to you? God’s Word tells me not to worry (Matthew 6:25), and I feel like an even bigger failure because I can’t stop worrying. Good news for all worry warts…you’re not alone! Lutheran Family Service counselors are available to help you break through this pattern, even if you’ve dealt with it your whole life. Through a combination of education (helping you understand where your worry comes from) and building a few new skills (teaching you practical ways to respond to worrisome thoughts so they no longer have free reign in your head), solid mental health education and support consistent with God’s Word and the Christian faith is helpful. Call us. It’s why we’re here! Lutheran Family Service  www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Building Healthy Families: Each person’s experience with grief following an important loss is unique, yet we share one thing in common: we all need someone to hear us, listen to our stories, and be witness to our deep loss, without becoming overwhelmed or needing to fix it for us. Many are struggling with grief. Lutheran Family Services grief specialist Dr. Mark Vande Braak - a life-long LCMS Lutheran - is available to you or anyone you know who has suffered traumatic loss or grief. Meet with Dr. Mark in-person in Sioux Falls, South Dakota or via your phone, tablet, or computer from anywhere in the United States. Building Healthy Families: Parents, grandparents and pew buddies! Did you know that even from the womb a child comes to know his or her mother’s voice, nurturing their bond, providing comfort, and building trust? As we celebrate Mother’s Day today, we also mark Good Shepherd Sunday on the church calendar. Jesus, our Good Shepherd, says “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). Thank you, Lord for the gift of mothers who reflect the comfort, security, and love of our Good Shepherd, Jesus and for the incredible gift of hearing his voice in our churches and homes! Happy Mother’s Day! Lutheran Family Service  www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Building Healthy Families: Are you ever tempted to dwell on the thought that some people are more gifted (or talented, or creative, or beautiful, or smart, or successful, or athletic…) than you are? Eleanor Roosevelt once famously said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Child, stop comparing yourself critically to others and remember instead who you are, because of Whose you are: But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12) Let each temptation to think otherwise remind you of this verse and the truth it boldly proclaims! Lutheran Family Service  www.LutheranFamilyService.org
