This item was made many years ago by Pat Eimers, Eunice Meyer, Bev Skadburg, Betty Roed, Connie Espe, Linda Kerkove, Marge Lavrenz and Cardene Parsons.  Quilt is on the ladder rack on the east wall.  We will begin bidding next week, September 8th.

Building Healthy Families - In today’s culture, death is often suggested as the answer in response to life’s challenging situations, like facing an unplanned pregnancy. The world tells her that she can make the situation better by ending her child’s life through abortion. As Christians, we have the best response; Jesus’ love, mercy, and forgiveness. We can love her like family, support her in choosing life, and offer tangible help like transportation, meals, childcare, diapers, clothing, and other household items. 1 John 4:19 – We love because he first loved us. Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Stewardship Corner - We read in 1 Peter 4:10, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good steward of God’s varied grace.”  God wants us to use the talents and abilities that He has given us the best way we can.  Paul said, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…” (Colossians 3:23).  With God’s help, we can begin and live each day with the joy and vigor that come from hearts filled with thanksgiving to God for His love, His guidance, His presence, and His strength in whatever we do.  The world does notice how we work, does hear how we speak, and does watch how we behave.  Let us help people see the love of the Lord through us.

Building Healthy Families: Are you hooked on live TV or internet news, which is now so easily available 24/7? It’s usually bad or sad news of trauma or drama about which we have no power to do anything. As a result, many of us are experiencing anxiety. Here are three things to do this week that will make a difference: 1) give someone the gift of your time - visit someone who is lonely or afraid; listen to their concerns and share encouraging words; 2) remind them (and yourself) that God is still on His throne, and Jesus is still seated at His right-hand, aware of all that is happening and actively involved in daily events; and 3) take a “news” vacation by turning off the TV for several days in a row. The world will go on and you’ll feel so much better! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Building Healthy Families: Parents, grandparents and pew buddies -- Have you ever heard a young child sing? Are they on key, in tune, or even singing the right words? Maybe not, but boy, oh, boy are they exuberant! Encouraging little ones to sing throughout the worship service is a wonderful way to involve them and imprint God’s Word and the teachings of our faith on their hearts. Focus on regularly occurring songs in the worship service and common hymns or songs with refrains. Consider selecting a song for the month (at church or home; or even better, both!) and take it a verse per week. What a joy it is for the whole church family to sing together, making a joyful noise to the Lord! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org

Building Healthy Families: What comes to mind when you hear the word adoption? A cute baby? A happy family? While these are wonderful images, the most important one is often missed - Jesus welcoming the child into His kingdom! Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”  (Matthew 19:14) Help to regularly identify, share, and support Christian adoption experiences in your congregation including those who are adoptees, those who’ve adopted, those currently pursuing adoption, and those who have made or are making a loving adoption plan for their child. You’ll be surprised at just how many lives are touched by adoption! Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org
