Announcements

September 30, 2018

Adult Bible Class – We are studying our Synod’s Explanation of the Small Catechism published in 2017.  These are the 374 questions in the back of Luther’s Small Catechism which help us apply the six chief parts of the Catechism to issues of our current church and culture.

Free Children's Resource - Iowa District West has provided us with free copies of the children's book "Do You Know Who Jesus Is?" to hand out to children in our area.  One idea they had for getting these books to children is to hand them out with your Halloween candy (WITH your Halloween candy - don't forget the candy!).  Feel free to take as many copies on the back table as you'd like.

Quarterly Council Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 14th following the service.  The Quarterly Voter’s Meeting will be Sunday, October 21st.

Lay Delegate – If you would like to serve as a lay delegate to the LCMS Synod Convention on behalf of our Circuit, please tell Pastor by Sunday, October 7th.  Convention will be held in Tampa, FL on July 20-25, 2019. Travel and hotel will be covered by the Circuit.

Preschool Soup Luncheon – On Sunday, October 21st from 11-1:00 p.m. the Kids of Kingdom Preschool Board will be holding a Soup Luncheon.  Once again we will be serving Chili, Chicken Noodle, and Potato Soups. Bring your containers for carry outs or we will have some, if you aren’t able to stay after church.  See you there!  Free Will Donation!

Algona Circuit Reformation Celebration - You are invited to celebrate the Lutheran Reformation once again together with the congregations of the Algona Circuit.  The celebration will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 520 N. Garfield St. in Algona on Sunday, October 28th.  We'll begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Divine Service, followed by German-style food and fellowship at 5:30 p.m.

Lessons on the Liturgy – May those who are weak or struggling in faith come to the Sacrament?

Yes. The words “for you” show us that Christ instituted this Sacrament for weak and struggling sinners like us, to draw us to Himself and to strengthen our faith in Him.  See Mark 9:24; John 6:37; Isaiah 42:3.  “Such people must learn that it is the highest art to know that our Sacrament does not depend upon our worthiness [...]. On the contrary, we go exactly because we are poor, miserable people.  We go exactly because we are unworthy.  This is true unless we are talking about someone who desires no grace and Absolution nor intends to change” (Large Catechism, V, 61).  - An Explanation of the Small Catechism (2017), p. 341-342

The Kossuth County C.A.R.E. Team Quilt Show that was to be held in March will now be held on Saturday, October 6th from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Trinity Life Center, Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona, IA.  All quilters that were ready to show their quilts that day, please consider sharing your talents again.  If you are interested in displaying a quilt or if you would like to help, please contact Brenda Bormann-bormann@ncn.net or text her at 515-341-6982 or Jane Dreyer - janedreyer95@hotmail.com or text her at 515-320-0490.   We hope you can join us, share a quilted item, and help us help those in need!  All monies earned will be given to the C.A.R.E. Team.

What is Operation Barnabas?  In Scripture, Barnabas is known as the “the encourager.” This is what Operation Barnabas strives to do by encouraging our military and their families.  This conference is to inform you on how you can care for the veterans in our congregation or community.  Come to the sixth annual Iowa District West Operation Barnabas Conference on Saturday, October 6th, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Carroll Iowa to learn more on how you can be involved and “Called to Serve.”
