Benches – The new benches have been set out by the church Centennial Rock. We will have a short service of blessing of the benches following the service today.  They were given by the family of Douglas Reimers.

Adult Bible Class For the next few weeks we will be studying our Synod’s Explanation of the Small Catechism published in 2017.  These are the 374 questions in the back of Luther’s Small Catechism which help us apply the six chief parts of the Catechism to issues of our current church and culture.

Thank You for the donation of $800 to Camp Okoboji’s Annual Fund. It is gratefully appreciated!

Lessons on the Liturgy – May women serve in the pastoral office?

No. God’s Word prohibits women from serving in the pastoral office.  All Christians, both men and women, are gifted for service in Christ’s Church, but each according to God’s order, Word, and will.  See 1 Corinthians 14:33-36; 1 Timothy 2:11-14; 1 Peter 4:10. Women have always served and continue to serve the Church in many different lay and professional vocations.  As teachers or deaconesses, for instance, they often bring gifts that men cannot. - An Explanation of the Small Catechism (2017), p. 320-321

What is Operation Barnabas?  In Scripture, Barnabas is known as the “the encourager.” This is what Operation Barnabas strives to do by encouraging our military and their families.  Come to the sixth annual Iowa District West Operation Barnabas Conference on Saturday, October 6th, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Carroll Iowa to learn more on how you can be involved and “Called to Serve.”   This conference is to inform you on how you can care for the veterans in our congregation or community.  Join us as we work together to serve our military families. Registration information is in the church office.

Cornerstone Resource Center - St. John's has been asked to pray for Cornerstone for Life Pregnancy Resource Center in Algona.  Cornerstone provides pregnancy testing and ultrasounds as well as Christian counseling and support for pregnant moms.  They also provide things like help finding a job, housing, adoption options, a ride to appointments, and clothes, diapers and formula to those in need.  Pray for the staff and volunteers that they be strengthened to share the love of Christ with those in need, and pray for the clients of Cornerstone that they come to know the love Christ and His Church has for them and that every life is precious in the eyes of God.  St. John's will be exploring options for financial and volunteer support of Cornerstone in the coming weeks.
