Special Offering We praise God that Cal Hauan has received a favorable report concerning tests done for his adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) in that the disease has currently had no adverse effects on his brain.  This gives them great hope for being able to successfully manage the disease.  The next steps for Cal include another MRI in 3 months, a potential stem cell transplant, and an MRI every 6 months thereafter.  In order to ease the financial burden of these several unexpected trips to Mayo Clinic, St. John’s will take a door offering for the Hauan family for the next two weeks. Please make checks out to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Thank You – What an awesome VBS!  This would not be possible without so many hands working together to make this a success!  Many thanks to everyone who helped bring cookies, volunteers to help in the kitchen, during story and music time, setting up and taking down, photographer, and especially to the parents and grandparents for bringing the children each night.  Special thanks to the VBS Committee for all their hard work.

*VBS Offering will go to Lutherans in Africa - $216.25.

Adult Bible Study – We will continue our study of the joys and benefits of receiving the Lord's Supper on a regular basis.  The goal of this study is to inspire in us a desire to receive Christ's body and blood every Sunday here at St. John's.  Everyone welcome!!

Coffee/Conversation - I have been gifted a single cup/12 cup coffee maker for my St. John's office, so stop by my office some time for a cup of coffee with me!  I am typically in my office on Tuesdays and Thursdays by 7:30 a.m., Wednesdays by 9:00 a.m. or at any time by appointment.  Feel free to stop in at any time. I'm never too busy to enjoy a coffee and conversation with you.

Midweek Divine Service will be held on August 15, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.

Rally Day Partnership Picnic - Trinity and St. John's are co-hosting a prayer service and picnic to kick off the new year of Sunday School and midweek Christian education.  The event will be held Sunday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Lake near the East shelter (that's the one near the entrance).  We will begin with a brief service at 10:30 which will include the installation of Sunday School teachers and presentation of Bibles and Catechisms, followed by a picnic lunch and games.  Food and drink will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring a dessert to share and lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.  The offering collected during the service will go toward the missions that the Trinity and St. John's Sunday Schools will be sending their offerings for the year.  We will introduce these missions during the service.  Keep in mind that this would be a great event to invite friends or family that aren't already connected with a church!  (Flyers available on the back table)

* St. John’s will have our regularly scheduled service at 9:00 a.m. at the church on Sep. 9th.

Ladies Day at St. John's: You still have time to sign up for the Chipped Inscriptions event with the ladies of St. John’s on Saturday, August 25th at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's. Please sign up on the back table by August 20th.  If you have any questions feel free to ask Hannah Cowell.

Preschool Registration - Kids of the Kingdom Preschool is now accepting registration for the 2018-2019 school year for 3 and 4 year olds.  Please contact the church office at 924-3344 or Jessie Parsons at 320-0501.

Lessons on the Liturgy - INRI

Often times the letters INRI are hung above Christ on crucifixes and artwork.  These four letters are an abbreviation of the title in Latin that Pontius Pilate had posted on Jesus’ cross as he was crucified: Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum.  In English that’s: Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.  That title of which the Jews protested, is a title in which we rejoice.  Jesus is not only king of the Jews, but the king of all creation who reigns forgiveness and peace from the throne of the cross and the kingdom of his resurrection.

The class length is nine classes, every Monday at 6:00 p.m. beginning on Sept. 10.  The cost is $100 for the class, workbook, and access to online materials.  The class is open to the public.  Please talk with Pastor Cowell if you are interested in attending.
