Fifth Sunday of Easter

Collect of the Day – O God, You make the minds of Your faithful to be of one will. Grant that we may love what You have commanded and desire what You promise, that among the many changes of this world our hearts may be fixed where true joys are found; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Welcome New Members - We welcome Ben, Breckin, and Brayton Borchardt as members of St. John’s.  The Borchardts have transferred from St. John’s Lutheran in Fenton.

Farewell Reception – We will have a farewell reception for Pastor Hauan and his family in the basement after service to thank him for his service and wish him God's blessings on his new call to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wausau, Wisconsin..  Pastor Hauan's final Sunday at Trinity is June 9th.

A Church Roof Fund has been set up for anyone wishing to donate.  Just designate “church roof fund” on your offering envelope.  A down payment of $25,000 has been sent to Jaeger Associates so we are currently on their list.   We helped them hit a milestone of 250 church roofs!!!  That is incredible!!  Work will begin later this year.

Partnership Event Planning Representative Needed - St. John's is in need of one or two people to help coordinate volunteers and materials for partnership events.  This doesn't mean you would have to participate in all the events, but simply be the contact person between Trinity and St. John's for when partnership events are being planned.  Basically, if you are good at hosting parties, then this is the job for you!  Contact Pastor Cowell if you are interesting or would like more information.

Flocknote Text Sender Wanted - I'm looking for a volunteer who would like to take over sending out our daily "text on the Text" or our daily prayer chain text (or both) on Flocknote.  Creating text messages on Flocknote is very easy to do and I will walk you through the process.  Messages can be created on your computer or cell phone, and they can be pre-scheduled as far in advance as you'd like.  I'm happy to continue sending these messages, I just thought this would be a good way to serve St. John's that can always work with your schedule. - Pastor Cowell

The Blessings of Weekly Communion – There are still plenty of handouts on the side table in back of the sanctuary from our “Blessings of Weekly Communion” Bible study.  As we keep learning about and considering the blessings of weekly Communion I encourage you to continue to bring me your questions and comments.

Then this camp is for you.  The LCMS camp near Solon, IA is hosting an event for men of all ages 8 and up - single, married, with children or no children on June 9-12.  The camp will be focused on learning the characteristics of biblical masculinity and doing various "man stuff." There will be a 45 minute Bible study each day, and the rest of the day will consist of outdoor activity.  This would be a great father/son/grandfather outing or just an opportunity to enjoy time with other Christian men.  Pastor Cowell will be attending this event.  See the flier in back, and register at: evanguard.org/csmpregistrstion

Lessons on the Liturgy The Distinction of Meats

The Church of the New Testament is no longer bound to the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament.  Article XXVI of the Augsburg Confession says this concerning the distinction of foods and other such human ceremonies that were required and commanded by the papacy:

Our churches have taught that we cannot merit grace or be justified by observing human traditions.  We must

not think that such observances are necessary acts of worship.  Here we add testimonies of Scripture [Matthew

     15:3, 9, 11; Romans 14:17; Colossians 2:16, 20-21; Acts 15:10-11; 1 Timothy 4:1-3]. [...] We do not condemn fasting

in itself, but the traditions that require certain days and certain meats, with peril of conscience, as though such

works were a necessary service.  Nevertheless, we keep many traditions that are leading to good order in the

Church, such as the order of Scripture lessons in the Mass and the chief holy days.  At the same time, we warn

people that such observances do not justify us before God, and that it is not sinful if we omit such things, without

     causing offense.
