Lessons on the Liturgy:   The Apostles Simon, Andrew, James, and John

In today’s Gospel lesson we hear of Jesus calling Simon, Andrew, James, and John to be his disciples.  Simon-Peter is remembered by a pair of keys because he was given the office of the keys by Jesus, as well as an upside-down cross because he was martyred in that way.  Andrew is remembered by a fish because he was called to be a fisher of men, and an X-shaped cross for his martyrdom.  James is remembered by a shell to symbolize baptism and a sword for his martyrdom.  John is remembered by a book and a pen as the author of several New Testament books.

Thank you for the recent gift of $800.00. Be assured that we will use it to serve Iowa families who come to us for help in this New Year who don’t have the ability to pay for the full cost of the help that they need. In these days where marriages and families are stressed in so many ways, your partnership with us in this ministry is needed, valued and appreciated.  On behalf of those we serve, our staff and Board of Directors, thank you and God bless you!  Pastor Max Phillips, Executive Director
