Thrivent Action Card - Kids of the Kingdom is looking for anyone who is a Thrivent member and would like to donate an Action Card to the preschool.  The Action Cards are in place of the matching funds we used to get and we have been using the cards to purchase ingredients for our soup dinner and bake sales.  We have been very successful with these fund raisers and they have enabled us to continue to provide a Christian preschool here at St. John’s.  Please contact Allison Christensen and she can give you the information how you can apply.  It does take some time to process and our next bake sale is in March.  Thank you for your continued support.

Lessons on the Liturgy:   House Blessings

There has long been a custom in many Christian traditions to bless houses during the season of Epiphany.  This custom is in connection with the celebration of the Magi entering the house of the Holy Family to bless Jesus and present to him gifts.  One custom is to write with chalk +C+M+B surrounded by the year on the entrance of the door of each house.  So for this year: 20+C+M+B 18.  One tradition says these letters stand for the supposed names of the Magi (Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar).  Another says they stand for Christus mansionem benedicat (Christ bless this house).  In any case, a cross drawn or crucifix hung in your entryway by Pastor or the head of the household would be just fine!

Annual Report Articles:   Remember to get your 2017 Annual Report articles in. You can email them to me at churchoffice@stjohnsburt.org.  Also, changes in addresses, phone numbers etc. get those to me also.  Rosann

Thank You to St. John’s for remembering our family this Christmas with such a kind & generous gift. We really appreciate your kindness.  It is a pleasure being in partnership with you and a privilege serving as your pastor.  God’s blessings!      Pastor Eric, Jill, Julia, Cal & Hazel Hauan

Church Cancellation:   St John's will be initiating a call-em-all service that will call everyone on the list if we have a cancellation of Church services due to weather or schedule changes in the church service.  This system can also be used for Church reminders of special events or upcoming meetings.   The phone number listed in the Annual Report for 2016 were the numbers used.  If you would like your cell phone number used instead of your home phone, please let the church office know.   With this system we hope to get everyone informed in a timely manner in case the radio does not announce it soon enough.    Church Council
