Announcements

February 5, 2017

A Special Offering is being taken to help defray the cost of purchasing a new furnace for the downstairs basement and main level classroom area.  An offering plate has been placed in the back for your gift.  Trustees

St John's will be initiating a call-em-all service that will call everyone on the list if we have a cancellation of Church services due to weather or schedule changes in the church service due to the vacancy.   This system can also be used for Church reminders of special events or upcoming meetings.   The phone number listed in the Annual Report for 2015 were the numbers used.  If you would like your cell phone number used instead of your home phone, please let the church office know.   With this system we hope to get everyone informed in a timely manner in case the radio does not announce it soon enough.  Church Council

Lutheran Witness RenewalsThe new subscription year for the Lutheran Witness is coming due soon.  To continue you getting this periodical, please pay $22.70 for the year in the church office.  If you are getting it and do not want it anymore, please let me know in the church office.  Also if you want it and do not receive it, please let me know with your payment for the year.  Rosann

Thrivent Choice Update – Thrivent Choice Dollars for 2016 will be expiring soon.  If you are a Thrivent member, you may be eligible to participate and direct Thrivent choice dollars to St. John’s or other LCMS organizations.  Simple go to www.thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-THRIVENT (800-847-4836) before March 31 and say “Thrivent Choice.”

Stewardship Corner - In 1 Timothy 6:7 we read, “We brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.”  Billy Graham said, “You never saw a hearse going to cemetery pulling a U-Haul.”  We are not going to take anything with us.  The money and things that God entrusts to us while on earth are tools that can be used for good or evil.  They can build or destroy.  While on earth, we are in control of what God has entrusted to us, and it is up to us to do things either God’s way or the world’s way.  The decision is ours.  May God help us understand that He owns all things and that we are the stewards to manage faithfully and wisely all that He entrusts to us.

Benefit – The Titonka Care Center Helpmates and many Titonka community members will be hosting a benefit  for Pastor John and Elsie Planz of Titonka.  The benefit is taking place today in Fellowship Hall at Good Hope Lutheran Church at Titonka today (Feb. 5) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Free will donation.

Breakfast Brunch – The Lone Rock American Legion Post #557 will hold a Breakfast Brunch today from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Lone Rock. Serving French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, juice and coffee. Supporting funds by Thrivent.  Free Will donation.

Did You Know?  There are 5 LCMS members currently serving in the Iowa legislature. Perhaps now more than ever, those who represent us need our prayers. Please name each of these individuals as well as your local legislators in your prayers this week, asking God to give them wisdom, strength and peace as they carry out their work:  Senator Roby Smith (Trinity, Davenport); Representative Mary Ann Hanusa (St. Paul, Council Bluffs); Senator Jason Schultz (Immanuel, Schleswig); Senator Mark Segebart (Trinity, Manilla) and Senator Tim Kraayenbrink (St. Paul, Fort Dodge).
