VBS 2016 is “farm-tastic!” In Barnyard Roundup VBS, your children learn that Jesus gathers us together! They’ll look into the Bible, God’s Holy Word, and explore five Bible accounts where Jesus graciously gathers us together to be with Him with His abundant provision and saving protection, now and forever.

*Registration is open for ages Preschool through 6th grade who will attend VBS from Sunday, June 26th  through Wednesday June 29th  beginning at 5:30 p.m. till 8:15 p.m. Come along with us as we sing fun songs, do crazy crafts, eat yummy snacks, play awesome games, and more. Smile-Amazon – Just a reminder to those who shop on line at amazon.com.    The Church is signed up to receive 5% of your purchase as an extra donation.   We received our first payment this week $9.52.   Not a lot of money but as members buy hopefully this will increase.  If you are in charge of buying items for your office sign us up!   The ideal is for this account to help supplement our budget or use for special projects that we may not have the funds for.   It is really easy to set up.   Log onto www.smileamazon.com and you will need to choose St. John’s Lutheran Church-Burt Iowa in the box provided.   Set that as your charity.   Every time you want to shop you will need to log onto the smileamazon.com website and it will transfer you over to www.amazon.com.   Up on the top you will see St. John’s Lutheran Church listed.   You need to do nothing else.   Amazon will determine which items get the 5% and which ones do not – you won’t even notice it.    It does not raise the price of any item you are purchasing to compensate for this 5%.

Hospice of the Heartland – A new monthly Grief Support Group is now being held at the Kossuth Region al Health Center the first Tuesday of every month. Group runs from 3-4:30 p.m. and second group that runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Flyer on the ramp bulletin board or call 515-295-4437 or email Kathy.dearchs@mercyhealth.com

Burt Township Cemetery Offering Headstone Restoration – Is your family gravestone in need of repair? The Burt Township Cemetery is offering a rare opportunity to take advantage of now. We are bringing in a company to repair any broken monuments, or those that have tipped or fallen. Cost to family would be $50 per stone.  Contact John Thompson (515-341-3739) at PO Box 222 Burt, Iowa.  johthomp270@gmail.com   Project completed by August 1, 2016.  Information is on the table in the back of the church.

Building Healthy Families In her book, “The Power of a Positive Mom”, Karol Ladd notes the importance of intentionally planning for summer activities with your children. She suggests making a large poster with “The Summer of 2016” written across the top. Invite your kids to join you in making a list of fun activities you want to do over the next two months. Also include some summer rules, like how much television time will be allowed, what chores will be required and how late is too late to sleep in. A little planning will help you enjoy these months off and avoid that regretful September statement, “Where did the summer go?”  . -Lutheran Family Service
