SYNOD, DISTRICT & PARTNERSHIP NEWS

NNew IDW Administration Assistant:

Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Emilie Jenson. I am the newest member of the Iowa District West office staff.Sue Light’s 46 years is a lot of experience and knowledge to be following in the footsteps, but it is my goal to make the administrative assistant transition as seamless as possible with very little change. I had an excellent trainer in Sue this past week and she will be missed! If you would like to send Sue well wishes on her retirement you may mail them to her at 1010 Park St. P.O. Box 365 Gowrie, IA 50543; or e-mail Suemlight@hotmail.com

  •  Going forward, all e-mail correspondence that would have gone to Sue will be sent to emilie@iowadistrictwest.org

CCamp Okoboji News

·         Sunday Worship Services are held each Sunday at Camp Okoboji. A List of Chaplin Pastors serving each week is posted on the ramp bulletin board.

Trinity - Summer Worship Schedule: During the summer months there will only be one Sunday service at 9:00 a.m. The Saturday service will continue at 5:00 p.m. except for holiday or wedding weekends.

Building Healthy Families: In addition to being overwhelmed with feelings of sadness and hopelessness, another sign of depression is distorted thinking. This may include: overgeneralizing – after one thing goes wrong, thinking, “Things NEVER go right for me;” exaggerated responsibility for others – “Why aren’t you happy? It must be because of something I did or didn’t do;” and negative self-labeling – “I didn’t get up in time to exercise today – I’m lazy and a failure.” Left unchallenged, distorted messages only deepen the despair. Depression is not a lack of faith or a character flaw, but a serious illness which when left untreated can destroy a life, a marriage and a family. It is treatable and you can feel better. See your medical doctor and remember that your pastor and Lutheran Family Service counselors, who share your faith in our God who keeps His promises, can help. Pledge to Pray for Our Troops - On the back table are cards for you to pick up and pray each day Psalm 91 for all Our troops and Our Nation.  This is a chance to pray with other Christians as we Band together to remember those who are serving. Take a couple and pass them on to others

2025 District Youth Gatherings: (mark your calendars) Jr High: October 18-19 – “Not Just Water” Sr High: November 21-23 – “God’s Calling Your Life”  Information in the church office.

Burt Beautiful Meeting will be held on August 25th from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. in the Burt Activity Complex.  We are an active group to help beautify Burt and would love to have you join us in these service projects!!

Giving Faithfully: Giving is connected to grace. Giving is a sign that we "get it," that we understand grace, and that we truly believe what God has done for us in Jesus. Grace is God's attitude of undeserved favor toward sinners; it also means God's unearned mercy is powerfully working within us. Faithful management of God's resources, then, is part of a relationship created by grace. It is not governed by rules – we must do this, and we must give that – but by grace, that is, by our relationship to God in Christ Jesus. How much we earn and how much we give, then, are deeply spiritual matters. We cannot go from paycheck to paycheck without thinking carefully about what we are doing with our money. We cannot use God's gifts without carefully considering the ways in which our actions affect others. Not if we are faithful managers, we cannot!

Hospice of the Heartland- will be starting a Grief Support Group that will run every Wednesday from September 3-October 8 at Kossuth Regional Health Center Room C.
