Note Time Change - Due to Pastor Dose on vacation July 28th and Pastor Nelson on August 4 we will be changing our service time on Sunday, August 4 to 8:00 a.m.  On July 28 will be at 9:30 a.m. regular time. Be sure to keep this in mind for the next few weeks. Trinity’s times will change also!

 

Special Collection for Flood Relief – St. John’s is collecting a door offering July 7 – July 21 to assist in flood relief efforts. Donations may be placed in the offering plate in the back or brought to the church office. Funds will be sent to Iowa District West for disbursement. Please refer to the flier on display for additional ways to pray, give, or serve!  

 

Quarterly Voter’s Meeting will be held today following the service.

Pastoral Schedule Update: Pastor Dose will be taking Fridays as his day off and will be spending Thursday mornings in Burt. Pastor Nelson will be taking Mondays as his day off and will be spending Tuesday mornings in Burt.

 

50 Years in the Ministry - On Sunday, July 7, 2024 Pastor Arlyn Sturtz, former St. John’s pastor celebrated 50 years in the ministry. Pastor Sturtz served Burt from 1977-1985. Pastor Sturtz now lives in Mobile, Alabama with his daughter and family JoHanna Sturtz Arnett. He stays active by teaching in a small college there.  Pastor Sturtz’s address is: 11550 Celest Rd., Saraland, AL 36571

 

SYNOD, DISTRICT & PARTNERSHIP NEWS

 

Trinity Worship Schedule Update: The Trinity Elders have determined that during the summer months there will only be one Sunday service at 9:00 a.m. The Saturday service will continue unless there is a holiday or wedding on those weekends.

 

On Trinity's Blog you can find various materials from our partnership pastors including the weekly radio program "Lift High the Cross," Lift High the Cross has transitioned into a walk through one of the readings that is not being preached on Sunday. Enrich your Sunday worship by gaining insight across God's Word! Also on the blog will be newspaper articles and other various thoughts from our pastors. trinityalgona.org/blog

VBS at Trinity -“Celebrate the Savior: Jesus Gives Us Joy” VBS will begin this week, starting tonight  July 21–25  from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  

TLC Quilters - Don’t forget about the TLC Quilter’s “giving pew” by the east doors of St. John’s.  Feel free to take and give away as many quilts and bears as you’d like!  

 

Flat Sheets and Old Tattered (well-loved) Quilts are needed by TLC Quilters. Thanks sew much for helping us help others in need!

Building Healthy Families - Attention parents, grandparents and pew buddies! Our sanctuaries and worship spaces are rich in design and decor that point us to Jesus. This is helpful to children and adults alike, engaging multiple senses to tell the story of our place in God’s family and our salvation. Next time you find yourself near a little one who is squirmy or unsettled, take notice of the details around you. Maybe you engage him or her to spot and count the crosses throughout the room, trace the embossed lettering or symbols on a Bible or hymnal with your finger, or locate and study a piece of art (painting, stained glass, banner, etc.). A LERT Team Site Supervisor is needed to help in Spencer for August-September.  LERT is an IDW organization that helps out when a disaster has occurred!   The Description of this job is on the table in the back, if any of you are interested in helping!  The position is volunteer, however, mileage and some expenses will be covered, along with housing and most meals being provided.
