The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Life Sunday in 2025 is celebrated today January 19, and the theme is "Life Shines in Darkness". The theme is based on John 1:4-5, which says, "In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it".
Voter’ Meeting will be held today following the service.
Adult Bible Class We have begun new study in Adult Class and encourage all to join us as we study the book of Ephesians.
Brr it’s cold outside! Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 2nd to join us for a congregational soup dinner in the basement of the church immediately following Sunday services! Enjoy an extra helping of warm fellowship while filling up with a warm bowl of soup.
After the soup dinner, join us for WINTER VBS FAMILY GAME DAY at the Burt Activity Complex. We will have games and fun for the entire family. Come visit and enjoy spending time with other families during the cold weather. We hope to see you all there!! -St. John’s Board of Education
Thank You! We just had the ladies from St. John drop off gifts for my family and Sunday School supplies for Christ the King. This, on top of what St. John's has given us a few weeks ago. My wife and I are incredibly grateful and humbled. We will, of course, be sending a thank you card soon. But, on top of that, if there's anything I (or my family as well) could do to show our gratitude to both congregations, please let me know. We thank God for all of you, for all the assistance, and for having such strong and faithful sister congregations, the zeal everyone has for the Gospel, and the care for ministering to those in need. Special Thanks to the Christmas Committee for decorating the church and the Candy Bags. We had many nice compliments on how beautiful the church looked during Christmas!

Adverse Weather - When church is to be cancelled due to snow etc, the Elders and Pastors will make the decision and then a Flocknote Cancellation call will be sent out to your cell phone or home phone. We will also try to put it on the Algona Radio.
Poinsettias: Thank you to all who purchased a poinsettia to beautify our sanctuary for Christmas! Poinsettias may be taken home. Vickie Madsen
SYNOD, DISTRICT & PARTNERSHIP NEWS
Want to Help with Hurricane Relief? We’ll be collecting items to send to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover, NC. Priority needs include Bandaids, Neosporin, medical gloves, cotton gauze, Diva cups (feminine product), adult body wipes, infant wipes, hand wipes, WATERLESS shampoo, & liquid bath soap. Other items include winter hats, gloves, coats, & boots; quilts; water purification tablets; and portable water filters. Many will be without clean water until at least December. Contact: Jade Nelson
A New Member Class is being offered by our Partnership for anyone interested in becoming a member of St. John’s or Trinity as well as those who just want to brush up on the basics of their faith! Class will be held Tuesday evenings beginning January 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity. Contact the church office or one of the Pastors if you wish to attend.
TLC Quilters - Don’t forget about the TLC Quilter’s “giving pew” by the east doors of St. John’s. Feel free to take and give away as many quilts and bears as you’d like! New quilts on display on the east entry pew!
Camp Okoboji News
· Jan. 24-26, 2025: ICE FISHING RETREAT- Come enjoy a weekend of ice fishing, devotions, Bible Studies and friendship! Open to families of all ages - anyone who loves fishing or wants to learn.
· Jan. 25, 2025: FAMILY FUN FEST AT WINTER GAMES - 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Family entertainment including inflatables, S’mores station, cookie decorating, sledding hill (weather permitting), indoor yard games and lunch.
