Altar Flowers - In celebration of 60 years of marriage the flowers on the altar today were given by Boyd and Rosann Shipler.

 

A Hand Quilted “Dresden Pattern” Queen Size (84”x 96”) Quilt was donated by the St. John’s Quilting Ladies for a fundraiser to St. John’s.  You will have a chance to bid on it for several weeks.  The proceeds earned from this fundraiser will help with the expense of the new sound system. This item was made many years ago by Pat Eimers, Eunice Meyer, Bev Skadburg, Betty Roed, Connie Espe, Linda Kerkove, Marge Lavrenz and Cardene Parsons.  Quilt is on the ladder rack on the east wall.  

Quilt Bidding!  

  • Put your silent bid in the container with your name. 
  • The highest bid as of today has been posted on the quilt.

            We will continue bidding through next week.. 

 

Portals of Prayer for October-December are now available on the table along the east wall

 

Quarterly Council Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 following the service at 10:30 a.m.  The Voter’s Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2024 following the service.

 

LYF Service Project - St John’s Lutheran Youth will be picking up brush as a service project. If you are interested in having them assist you, please sign up at City Hall (515-924-3618 or 515-320-5782) or the Library (515-924-3680 or  (515-320-0501  This will be November 3rd from 11-1 only.  THIS IS A SERVICE PROJECT NOT A CITY EVENT.  Please make sure this is brush and not whole trees or very large branches.

Pastoral Schedule Update: Pastor Dose will be taking Fridays as his day off and will be spending Thursday mornings in Burt. Pastor Nelson will be taking Mondays as his day off and will be spending Tuesday mornings in Burt.

TLC Quilters - Don’t forget about the TLC Quilter’s “giving pew” by the east doors of St. John’s.  Feel free to take and give away as many quilts and bears as you’d like!  New quilts are available now!

Women’s Bible Study at Trinity begins Monday, September 16 at 7 & 9:30 a.m.  We’ll study ESTHER, TRUSTING GOD’S PLAN, part of the Women of the Bible study series. “God masterfully orchestrates & weaves together every detail of our lives & this universe.” Join us as we explore the subject of God’s providence in our lives. Esther 4:14 – “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Please contact Jane (320-0490) or Cheryl (320-1288) if you’d like to join us……we’d love to study Esther with you!

 

A Special Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 14th at 7 p.m. for families dealing with infancy or pregnancy loss (please note date adjustment). October is National Pregnancy and Infancy Loss Month. We come together to remember and offer comfort and hope during this unthinkable loss. All are welcome even if this loss happened many years ago. Come join us and receive support.

 

Mark Your Calendars! - The Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska Men’s Chorus will be at Trinity, Algona for a concert/ hymn sing on Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m.  Be sure to join us!


Churches Trunk or Treat is being organized for Burt Halloween night, October 31st.   Watch for more information to come.

 

 

Camp Okoboji Fall Volunteer Day will be October 11-12. Make plans to come & share your time & talents to help us wrap up summer & prepare for winter! Room & board provided for volunteers – for accommodations, call the camp office at 712-337-3325. Camp Okoboji 

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

 

Burt’s Harvest Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, October 19th from 4:30-7:00 p.m. at the Activity Complex. Serving Chicken and Biscuits, Fire Dept. pumpkin painting, Women’s Club pumpkin bars and Burt Library serving Hot Chocolate.  Burt Bulletin will be bringing you a pumpkin derby that day also.

 

Burt Library News - Join us at the Burt Public Library for a presentation on Card Making on Monday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m. You will be able to make your own greeting card!  (Note the date change)

 

National Life Chain is being held today October 6th from 2- 3 p.m. on Highway 169 in Algona stretching north from the corner of State and Jones. We will begin at the Louscher parking lot at 1:30 p.m. Signs will be available. Come and let us unite in prayer and honor God. Kossuth County Right to Life.
