ST. JOHN’S NEWS
Adult Bible Study will be held next Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
Quarterly Council Meeting will be held today following the service
The Quarterly Voter’s Meeting will be Sunday, July 30 after the service.

St. John’s Elders will meet following the council meeting today.
Update on Pastoral Vacancy - Last Tuesday evening St. John’s Elders met with Pastor Briton Nelson, Circuit Visitor, Pastor Scott Kozisek, IDW President Steve Turner, and the Elders of Trinity. The upcoming vacancy was discussed. The Elders of both churches decided to pursue a temporary vacancy pastor to help with the services and duties needed by our congregations until a suitable replacement is found. Our first step is to approve by vote to search for a Head Pastor. It will be discussed in the council meeting today. We will plan on bringing it to a congregational vote on Sunday, July 30th. We will then form a committee and the congregation can nominate pastors they would like to call. With God’s help we will get through this! President, Jeff Schutjer and Elders
Pastor Cowell’s last Sunday will be August 13th. St. John’s will have our Divine Service at 8:30 a.m. and Trinity’s will be at 10:30 a.m. A farewell lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. at the Trinity Life Center for both congregations.
Sign-Up Farewell Luncheon - The committee has a sign up sheet at the back of the church for Pastor Cowell’s farewell lunch for a count for the caterer. We will need to have an estimated count by July 30.
Farewell Choir - Anyone wishing to sing in Trinity’s choir at the 10:30 a.m. service on August 13th, please contact Pam Gogerty at 515-890-3242.
Thrivent Members can receive two $250 Thrivent Action cards per year. To offer your Action card to help one of St. John’s groups with fundraisers, educational projects, & service activities, we will need a contact person to help with the application process. If you are a Thrivent member or not and would like to be the coordinator of this, please let the office know.

Window Project - The window project for replacement of 15 windows in the new addition - all Anderson windows, stained and installed, was voted and passed on Sunday, April 30, 2023 by the congregation. The windows have been ordered this week. When the contract was signed, we managed to get another $4,000 off the price as there was a better deal running for the month of May, so that saved us a total of $14,732. Total due for the project is $58,932. Anyone wishing to donate to this project can stipulate it on your offering envelope or drop an extra envelope in the plate with "window project" on it. Windows are projected to be in late September. Thank you! Church Council.

Trinity VBS - “God’s Living Water” is July 23–27 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. You can still register and get more info at trinityalgona.org/vbs
Interested in learning Spanish? - We are beginning a weekly Spanish learning/speaking group! The day and time this group will meet will be determined soon.
Ark Encounter/Creation Museum Trip - For those still interested, we have the opportunity to join an already scheduled bus tour, and although there are no minimum sign-up requirements, seats will fill up, so reservations should be made in a timely manner. This trip is planned for Oct 9-13 (Mon – Fri), and the bus will load in Fort Dodge. A sign-up sheet and informational flier are available on the back table. TLC Quilters
· Available - Don’t forget about the TLC Quilter’s “giving pew” by the east doors of St. John’s. Feel free to take and give away as many quilts and bears as you’d like!
· Old Tattered Quilts Needed! Well-loved quilts can be repurposed into prayer hearts to provide comfort for others.
· Old Denim Jeans? We are in need of old denim jeans (any color & any condition) to make into quilts. Bring them to the church office or stop by the basement on Tuesdays or Thursdays to see them in action!
Camp Okoboji
· Okoboji Travel Camp - September 6-10, 2023: Camp Okoboji is planning a bus trip to Branson, Missouri. Brochures about the trip and registration forms are on the back table.
· Family Retreat 1 - July 30 - August 4: Designed to provide families an experience that leads toward household and individual faith formation, strengthening family relationships and creating an environment for rest and relaxation.
