ST. JOHN’S NEWS

St. John’s Family Fishing Day - Our 2nd annual St. John’s family fishing day is today beginning at 3:00 p.m., with supper at 6:00 p.m., at the Smith Lake southwest shelter! This is Iowa’s free fishing weekend.  Bait and supper is provided and all ages are welcome to attend!

Pastor-elect Briton Nelson will be ordained and installed at Trinity on Sunday, June 25th at 4:00 p.m. A meal will follow the service.  His installation will be recognized at St. John’s on July 2nd during our morning Divine Service.  Please pray for Briton, his wife Jade, and one year old daughter Autumn as they make the transition to our community! - Please sign up on the back table if you plan to attend the ordination meal to help with our planning process.

Window Project -  The window project for replacement of 15 windows in the new addition - all Anderson windows, stained and installed, was voted and passed on Sunday, April 30, 2023 by the congregation.   The windows have been ordered this week.  When the contract was signed, we managed to get another $4,000 off the price as there was a better deal running for the month of May, so that saved us a total of $14,732.   Total due for the project is $58,932.  Anyone wishing to donate to this project can stipulate it on your offering envelope or drop an extra envelope in the plate with "window project" on it. Windows are projected to be in late September.    Thank you!  Church Counsel

Thank You!  We would like to thank everyone for your sympathy and kindness after the passing of Red.  It was all greatly appreciated.  We would especially like to thank Pastor Colwell for his many visits to see Red and for the beautiful service.  Also a big thank you to all of the ladies that helped serve the lunch the day of the funeral. God bless all of you, Doris, Steve, Sandi and families

Ordination Choir - Our Partnership will have a special choir for the ordination service on June 25th for Briton Nelson.  Anyone from St. John’s who wishes to be a part of this choir, please contact the office at Trinity (515-295-3518). Kitty will be helping St. John’s members with the practices here.  Contact her on the times of those practices.  We will have a joint practice at Trinity Wednesday, June 21 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, June 25 prior to the ordination service (probably around 3:20 pm).

Parish Messenger July/August edition of the messenger is due to Linda Kerkove by Sunday, June 25.

Gift Card Shower for the Nelsons - Our Partnership is collecting local gift cards (gas, grocery, restaurant, etc.) for the Nelsons to help ease the burdens of moving and to welcome them into our community.  You can label your gift cards: “Nelsons” and put them in the offering plate or turn them into the church office.  We will present these cards at the ordination reception.

Building Healthy Families - Each person’s experience with grief following an important loss is unique, yet we share one thing in common: we all have need for someone to hear us, listen to our stories, and be witness to our deep loss, without needing to fix, lessen, or reframe our experience. Knowing that many are struggling with prolonged, complicated grief, Lutheran Family Service recently added a person with specialized, extensive training and experience in grief work to help people with grief. Dr. Mark Vande Braak - a life-long LCMS Lutheran - is now available to you and anyone you know who has suffered traumatic loss and complicated or prolonged grief to work with you through individual meetings providing grief education and support. Meetings with Dr. Mark are available in-person in Sioux Falls, South Dakota or via telehealth to anyone in the United States, regardless of location. Reach out today for more information or to schedule a time to talk with Dr. Mark by emailing mvanderbraak@lutheranfamilyservice.org or through the “contact us” link on the LFS website.  Lutheran Family Service www.LutheranFamilyService.org
