ALL SAINTS DAY
November 6, 2022
Almighty and everlasting God, You knit together Your faithful people of all times and places into one holy communion, the mystical body of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Grant us so to follow Your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that, together with them, we may come to the unspeakable joys You have prepared for those who love You; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Thank you for answering God’s call to support His work here at the Seminary! It is hard to believe that this is my final year and I will be receiving a call to be a pastor this April! Pray for the placement directors at both seminaries, the candidates, and the churches needing pastors. To God be all the Glory! Nick Palmer, Vanessa, Avery & Vince

LESSONS ON THE LITURGY
Lutherans Love the Saints
Here’s what Article XXI of our Augsburg Confession says regarding our relationship with the saints in heaven:
Our churches teach that the history of saints may be set before us so that we may follow the example of their faith and good works, according to our calling. For example, the emperor may follow the example of David in making war to drive away the Turk from his country. For both are kings. But the Scriptures do not teach that we are to call on the saints or to ask the saints for help. Scripture sets before us the one Christ as the Mediator, Atoning Sacrifice, High Priest, and Intercessor. He is to be prayed to. He has promised that He will hear our prayer. This is the worship that He approves above all other worship, that He be called upon in all afflictions. “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father” (1 John 2:1).
In short, let the saints be saints and let Jesus be Jesus. Praise the faith of the saints, follow their lead, be inspired by their good works and holy lives, but look to Christ alone for forgiveness and life and pray to God alone in times of need.
FROM THE BOOK OF CONCORD
Solid Declaration of the Formula of Concord, Article XI: God’s Eternal Election, para. 28
If we want to think about our eternal election to salvation helpfully, we must in every way hold firmly to this truth: just as the preaching of repentance is universal, so also the promise of the Gospel is universal, that is, it belongs to all people. For this reason Christ has given these commands:
· Repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations. (Luke 24:47)
· God loved the world…He gave His only Son. (John 3:16)
· Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)
· [Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole
world. (1 John 2:2)
· The Lord is not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
· The same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. (Romans 10:12)
· The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ [is] for all who believe. (Romans 3:22)
· My Father wills that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life.
(John 6:40)
It is Christ's command that this promise of the Gospel also should be offered to everyone in common to whom repentance is preached (Luke 24:47; Mark 16:15).
