Fifth Sunday After The Epiphany
Collect of the Day – O Lord, keep Your family the Church continually in the true faith that, relying on the hope of Your heavenly grace, we may ever be defended by Your mighty power; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Shrove Tuesday - Join us at Trinity Lutheran Church Tuesday, March 5th for our first annual Shrove Tuesday Partnership Pancake Supper. We'll begin at 6:00 p.m. with corporate Confession and Absolution in the sanctuary, followed by a pancake supper in the Life Center at 6:15. Pick up a flier on the back table for more information about the history of the Shrove Tuesday celebration.
* If you would like to help cook the pancakes, sausage, etc. for the supper, please let Pastor Cowell know.
Prayer for Unity - In addition to our Sunday prayers for our LCMS congregations, we will also begin to pray for the other Christian congregations in our area. As we pray for these congregations we remember both our common love for our Triune God as well as our desire for the pure truth of the Word to create greater unity among us. If you would like us to add a specific congregation to our list, please let Pastor Cowell or Rosann know.

Lutheran Witness Subscriptions Due - Those who are receiving the Lutheran Witness now and wish to continue, you may pay for those in the church office or mark an envelope and place it in the offering plate. Lessons on the Liturgy - Pray without ceasing
We know that our Father delights to hear and answer our prayers and that the whole world is in constant need of our intercession in the name of Jesus, but do you ever feel overwhelmed when you think of what and who you could be praying for? Page 294 in our hymnal has a division of topics for prayer spread across the seven days of the week. This list might help you be more specific in your daily prayers and help you to pray for a wider range of needs in the world and your own life each week. Take a picture with your phone or ask Pastor to photocopy this page for your use at home.
Retirement - The Rev. Mark Gerken, Assistant to the President for Missions, Human Care and Stewardship in Iowa District West (IDW) has announced his retirement at the end of February. Pastor Gerken has served in ministry for 37 years, 32 of those years here, in IDW. We invite you to share congratulatory letters/cards by mailing them directly to his home: Rev. Jesus Comforts His People and Builds Up His Church by the Ministry of His Gospel -
When Isaiah “saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up,” he was overcome with an awareness of his sin and “unclean lips” (Is. 6:1, 5). But the Lord atoned for his sin, took away his guilt and sanctified his lips with “a burning coal” from the altar (Is. 6:6–7). Not only was he rescued from death, but he was called and sent as a prophet of the Lord’s Word (Is. 6:8–9). Similarly, when Simon Peter and his companions “enclosed a large number of fish” at the Word of Jesus, he humbled himself and said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:4–8). But Jesus comforted Simon, called him to discipleship and declared that he would be “catching men” (Luke 5:10–11). So in the Office of the Ministry, the Church remains the little boat from which Jesus teaches His people (Luke 5:3). Thus are we instructed in the faith, so that we say “Amen” and return thanks with heart, mind, tongue and life. For the preaching of Christ Jesus is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit, by which He builds up His Church on earth (1 Cor. 14:12–19).
Alzheimer’s Support Group will be held February 14th from 3-4 p.m. in the activity room at Van Buren Terrace of Good Samaritan Home, Algona. We will have a guest speaker Gregg Woods from the Alzheimer’s Association.
