SOUP LUNCHEON - Kids of the Kingdom Preschool, St. John's Lutheran in Burt, will be having their annual soup luncheon fundraiser on October 16th from 11a.m. to 1p.m. in the church basement.  We invite everyone to join us to help support the preschool in providing a Christian environment for the students early education years.

QUARTERLY COUNCIL MEETING will be held on Thursday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m.  The Elders will meet with Pastor at 6:30 p.m.  The Voter’s Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, October 9th following the service.

 

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION FUND – St. John’s Centennial Committee has received a Paul Hasse Memorial donation to be given to the Centennial Celebration in 2013. A separate fund has been opened at the bank to handle receipts and expenses for the Centennial Celebration.  Donations to this account can be given by marking a separate envelope St. John’s Centennial and place it in the offering plate, leave it in the office or give it to Committee President, Lynn Bierstedt.

 

INFORMATIONAL SHEETS have been available in the back for several weeks now.  Please pick up a form(s) and return those to the church office so we can begin the process of getting them in the computer data.  We are looking for addresses of former family members, phone numbers, emails or any contact information.  Questions contact Vern Koestler or Rosann Shipler and return them to the church office.

 

DEPLOYED TO IRAQBrady Shaffer is now been assigned to duty in Iraq.  Cards can be sent to him at: Shaffer, Brady, Second line: NMCB 1 Seabees, Third line: Det Whiskey, Fourth Line: APO AE 09391. He left on June 9th and will be there 8 to 10 months.  Keep Brady in your prayers!

OUTREACH EVENT – Don’t miss this exciting day of being +grounded+ in God’s Word, +growing+ in Christian faith, and +teaching+ out with God’s grace!  This Outreach Resource and Training event will be held on Saturday November 5, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Storm Lake.  There will be breakout sessions, the opportunity to connect with local ministry leaders at a Ministry Fair and activities for kids and teens.  Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Robert Newton President from the California-Nevada-Hawaii District.  Pastor Jason Peterson will lead one of the break-out sessions.  For more information and registration online www.idwlcms.org/outreach, call Jill at 515-576-7666 or talk to Pastor Peterson.

 

THRIVENT ANNUAL MEETING  will be held today at the Burt Complex at noon. We are calling it our Shredded Party - come see what we are having to eat and what kind of prize you might win! Thanks so much!       Kathy Paul

POTATO BAKE – On Friday, October 14, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. a Potato Bake will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Life Center.  The cost per person will be $7.00 and you can get your advanced tickets at Trinity, Diamonds or Mary Hannover at Good Samaritan Home.  This is sponsored by the Auxiliary and Trhivent Finacial for Lutherans and proceeds will go for Automatic Door Openers.

 

CAMP OKOBOJI FALL VOLUNTEER WEEKEND - Camp Okoboji is providing opportunities for volunteer service this fall. You, your spouse, your family, your friend(s) may come and stay at Camp Okoboji on September 30 and October 1 and volunteer to assist the full-time and year around staff with lots of projects. Please call ahead for reservations at 712-337-3325 so we can make plans for housing and meals. We will be holding church services in the Christian Life Center on Sunday, October 2. Pastor Michael Harman from Newell will lead the worship service. There will be an Omelet Brunch on Sunday, October 2 from 9:30 a.m.  until 1:00 p.m.  A free-will offering will be taken with the proceeds going to the Annual Fund.  Make plans now to join us!
